Learning About Termite Damage

Termites can certainly ruin any home improvement project.  Homeowners need to take their time to learn about how termites can do damage to your home.  Believe it or not, termites can cause extensive damage to your home.  They tend to reside in colonies that may range from hundreds to thousands to even millions.  They feed on the wood in your home.  There are ways to spot termite damage.  Termites can either be called central site nesters or multi site nesters.  Central nesters contain one queen termite and a stationary nest whereas multi nesters have various nesting sites throughout the house.

What you want to look for are termites that are either alive or dead because you obviously cannot look inside your wall area.  Termites love to be where there is light so search near lighting fixtures, vents, doors and windows.  A surprising fact is that a group of 10,000 termites are able to chow through a foot of a piece of wood that is a 2×4 within a period of a couple months.  You really do not want to find out how long it would take to devour your entire home so it is best to take care of the issue before it gets any worse.  You want to inspect your home on a regular basis for any signs of termites and at the very first sign, call an exterminator immediately.  Doing a home improvement project is no fun when you have termite damage.
